USBC to Accept Arena Venue
Bids for Women's Championships
7/7/2005
Experiencing bowling competition in a stadium setting on an
annual basis may become reality for United States
Bowling
Congress Women's Championship bowlers.
USBC has announced that it is now accepting and soliciting bids
from cities that can host the USBC Women's Championships
(formerly the Women's International Bowling Congress
Championship Tournament) in arenas or convention centers in 2010
and 2011.
Much like the USBC Open Championships (formerly the ABC
Championships Tournament), bidding cities must provide a
facility that can house approximately 48 specially-installed
lanes, seating for 1,000 spectators, temporary offices and space
for vendors for a period of at least 130 consecutive days.
Attracting more than 65,000 participants, the USBC Open
Championships has been conducted in arena settings since it
began in 1901.
As the world's largest participatory sporting event for women,
attracting nearly 45,000 bowlers, the USBC Women's Championships
can result in a positive financial impact of approximately $13
million per month for the host city.
"We are proud to be able to offer USBC women members the
opportunity to compete in an arena setting on an annual basis in
the future," said USBC Chief Tournament Officer Roseann Kuhn.
"With both the USBC Women's and Open Championships being
conducted in a stadium atmosphere, our grassroots members can
experience something few other sports membership organizations
provide."
Women are able to experience arena competition on an
every-third-year basis when they compete in Reno, Nev.'s
National Bowling Stadium, the site of the 2006 USBC Women's
Championships and every three years thereafter through 2018.
Open to women who hold USBC adult membership, the USBC Women's
Championships consists of team, doubles and singles competition
in five divisions: Classic for bowlers with averages of 190 and
above; Division 1 for averages of 170-189; Division 2 for
averages of 150-169; Division 3 for averages of 131-149; and
Division 4 for averages of 130 and below.
The 2006 USBC Women's Championships will accept phone
reservations at (414) 423-9006 beginning Sept. 19. Reservations
for the USBC Women's Championships also may be accepted through
online requests, fax or mail beginning Sept. 19, however, phone
reservations take precedence.
After 2006, the USBC Women's Championships will be conducted in
Charlotte, N.C. (2007) and Detroit (2008).
