USBC Introduces New, Expanded Awards Program
3/2/2005
GREENDALE, Wis. - The United States Bowling Congress announced that it
will introduce an expanded awards program in an effort to standardize
bowling achievements for men, women and youth beginning Aug. 1.
The
new program combines elements of the American Bowling Congress, Women's
International Bowling Congress and Young American Bowling Alliance awards
programs into one program. It will feature 39 new achievements for men,
women and youth and 11 achievements revised by adding average criteria.
"Our goal was to standardize achievements and make the program easier to
understand for the member, the league secretary and the association
official," said USBC Chief Operating Officer Jack Mordini. "We looked at
the ABC, WIBC and YABA programs and kept the best from each program."
Based on average rather than on age or gender, the program features new
designs and more opportunities for recognition of members' outstanding
bowling accomplishments. For example, lower average and senior bowlers
still will have an opportunity to qualify for awards for an 80 game to a
250 game based on their average.
"USBC award criterion provides expanded award options," said USBC
Membership and Awards Team Leader Eileen Rauman. "Achievements are based
on skill level and not age or gender. All members have an opportunity to
strive for the next achievement level."
"Youth members are no longer limited to earning an award once in a
lifetime or earning awards progressively. All achievements can be earned
once per season."
Bowling achievements have been recognized in certified competition since
ABC first offered awards in the 1905-06 season. During the 2003-04 season,
nearly two million awards were distributed to ABC, WIBC and YABA members.
