Den
Fernandez, 61 years old, bowled an 879 series in the Utah State
Seniors Tournament at Superbowl lanes in Lehi, Utah on December
4th. This was Den's second 800 series. His first,
816, came at Fat Cats of Salt Lake.
Den started his singles set with 14 strikes before leaving a 10-pin in the third frame of the second game. He finished his set with 21 strikes.
Den, A Utah Transit Authority (UTA) employee has been bowling since 1960 when he joined a bowling club at West High School. After the first time out he was hooked.
Den used a 16 lb, Hammer 2001 drilled by Frankie May, a former Hammer factory representative. Den has nine 300 games in addition to his two 800 series.
During the tournament Den also picked up the "Big 4" during the doubles competition.
Bowling is a family affair for the Fernandez' Den's wife Marjean bowls, his 85 year old mom carries a 163 average, and his son-in-law, Donnie Poole, also bowls.
