Mushtare’s record-setting bowling performances continue to
reach new heights.
On Saturday, during a Pine Plains Bowling Center’s youth league
match, the 17-year-old Carthage Central senior nearly did the
impossible. He bowled a perfect 900 series, which is
expected to be recognized by the U.S. Bowling Congress (USBC).
Once Mushtare’s feat is recorded, it will be only the eighth 900
in the history of the USBC. He is also the youngest bowler ever
to bowl a 900 series and the first bowler from New York State
ever to bowl a 900 series.
Mushtare, the son of Richard and Nancy Mushtare, rolled 36
straight strikes down two alleys at the bowling center during
Saturday’s league match. He had already bowled a 900 series in
practice, but this time it was legit.
Mushtare said as he prepared to roll the 36th ball down the
alley Saturday he wasn’t too sure if he would strike out.
“The ball kind of stuck on my hand,” Mushtare said. “I wasn’t
too sure about it, but then I saw it heading towards the pins
and it hit the pins just right.”
Mushtare, who earlier this season bowled an 856 and 849 series
in the youth league, said there wasn’t much of a commotion after
he bowled the perfect series.
“There wasn’t really any big celebration because I guess
everyone probably thought I was just having another good
series,” he said.
The 900 series was rolled with a Storm Paradigm ball.
While Mushtare wants to turn professional within a few years,
his next goal is to break the national record for the most 800
series in a season. The record is eight and Mushtare already has
two this season. With his 900 series, Mushtare has already
broken the highest youth national series of 888.
“It would be nice to get another 900 series, too,” Mushtare
said, “ but that isn’t going to be easy.”
Mushtare just completed the first quarter of the state youth
bowling tour. He finished in third place in his division. He had
a 211 average, including a 740 series and a high game of 279.
Between bowling and swim practice, Mushtare doesn’t have much
spare time. He does manage to get in some bowling practice on
Wednesday and Friday nights at Pine Plains. Mushtare also
competes on the Carthage swimming and golf teams.
