USA Bowling Amateur Championships
to Move to All Direct Entries
October 14, 2004
Bowlers seeking spots on Team USA 2006 at the 2006 USA
Bowling National Amateur Championships will have a much simpler method of
entering.
The USA Bowling Board of Directors recently approved a
plan in which entrants can go directly to the national finals by paying a
$250 fee. There no longer will be any requirements to participate in local
and/or state qualifiers to receive special entry to the finals.
“This simplifies the process tremendously,” USA Bowling Administrative
Director Kevin Dornberger said. “We are moving in this direction to save
time and paperwork for our volunteers and staff.
“Local and state associations still are encouraged to conduct qualifiers
if they desire. There are no restrictions and plenty of flexibility. They
may use whatever formats they like. All we require is the $250 entry fee
for each player.”
State qualifier winners currently receive a paid entry and $250 toward
expenses while others qualifying from states receive a paid entry and
$100. While the new plan calls for all entrants to pay their own expenses
to the national finals, they no longer will have expenses at the state and
local levels.
The new plan also calls for only current Team USA members to receive paid
entries to the national finals.
“The original format was created to obtain grass roots support for the
event. It was designed to give bowlers a look at what it took to compete
at this level,” Dornberger said. “Now that awareness is at a higher level,
moving to all direct entries is the best way to go.”\
